The Panera Bread trip has a lot to love. First you go to the display of glazed cinnamon buns and freshly baked loaves of sourdough bread, the aroma of coffee provides a complete baking experience. But as the menu expands, Panera has certainly become a favorite for more than just pastries. Now, if it's early morning and you need a little more nutrition than a sore chocolate, you can order a hot breakfast sandwich that still makes the most of the company's fabulous bread. Dessert can be here at any time of the day, of course, and there's even pizza for dinner. However, we believe that Panera Bread is best at lunchtime, when you can choose from all the comforting soups and hearty salads.

We previously shared each of themsoup and sorted themBut what's a soup without a salad? We had to do the same due diligence with the menu page that featured such inspired options, from the Asian sesame chicken salad to the Baja bowl. We don't want to place the wrong order, and we know you don't either. Most of them were totally enjoyable, but some were just too good to miss. Forget lunch, we'll eat it for dinner too (and then buy a cake). So if you're hungry, read this ranking of options from worst to best before heading to Panera for a meal.

10. Teriyaki bowl with chicken and broccoli

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (2)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

Panera bread comes off the bread in this Panda-Express style warm bowl. It's a complete all-in-one meal, which you wouldn't expect from this fast, casual chain that glistens with almost delicate soups and salad combinations (see "You Pick Two" menu). You're definitely hungry if you choose this bowl of teriyaki chicken and broccoli. It features nicely browned chicken thigh meat and small sprigs of broccoli on an earthy mix of brown rice and quinoa and is said to be flavored with cilantro and lime. All drizzled with a teriyaki glaze based on soy sauce and sprinkled with fresh coriander and sesame seeds. We were skeptical as this is quite unusual for Panera Bread. Unfortunately, the dish did not exceed our low expectations.

The chicken is the star of the show, actually it's very tender and juicy chicken, so we liked the meatiness in this bowl. But, and this is probably shocking, I actually needed more broccoli. Definitely more broccoli. When we say the bowl was glazed, we mean it. Everything was drenched in a sauce that was tasty but too sweet. We needed a lot more freshness to balance things out as a few small pieces of broccoli just wasn't enough. There was even more sauce on the side that we couldn't have imagined. What we needed on the side was a salad to balance out all the flavor of the glaze.

9. Asian salad with sesame chicken

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (3)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

Remember just a few seconds ago you read the last line about a bowl of Teriyaki with chicken and broccoli that needs a salad? Yes, it was a very useful set for Asian sesame chicken salad. It seemed the perfect complement, a modest and minimalist proposition full of light and fresh elements, so we tried it right after the hot bowl. This one also had chicken, but it's the more popular style of Panera Bread with salad-ready chicken, plain white meat cut into thin strips with a hint of golden brown on top. This chicken is softer than thigh meat, but it does the job in that context. The salad also comes with sesame seeds and wonton strips; we love the well placed wonton bar. Yes, sometimes we even eat them straight from the bag.

According to the menu, we were promised roasted almonds in a salad, but we had to work hard to find them. Even when we did, the salad was still a bit boring. Some of us were impressed with the delicious sesame vinaigrette, which certainly added flavor to the salad, but we quickly got bored even with the dressing. Since there are no particularly Asian-inspired soups or sandwiches on the menu, and the Teriyaki bowl already comes with chicken, it seems a bit lost as an accompaniment. If you like those bright Asian-inspired flavors that pair with veggies, give this a trythis cabbage with an even better sauce than Panera.

8. Niska miska

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (4)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

Panera Bread's three "bowl" options are true globetrotters. We tried it in Asia and now it's time for a trip to Baja. Baja California is confusingly part of Mexico, but even so, this dish is more inspired by the fresh and modern flavors of C.A. The base is the same Cilantro Lime Brown Rice found in the other two bowls and we believe it works much better in this context. There is also quinoa (very Californian) and instead of sour cream Greek yogurt (even more Californian). Before we get to all the good stuff, our biggest headache was the choice of feta. Why not spicy cheddar, Monterey Jack or even pepper jack for extra flair? Feta cheese fits better in a Mediterranean dish than here.

Beans with meat and corn were very tasty - although you can ask for chicken to order, thanks to this substantial addition there is no need. Our bowl could use more avocado, but the two sauces made up for it. . The best thing was the light green sauce, a non-greasy and refreshing sauce that infused the rice with so much flavor. Despite its noble efforts, overall the Baja Bowl tries to be a party in your mouth, but it's actually more like a Tuesday night after a day of running errands. There's nothing wrong with that, but it won't make you feel better or leave you wanting more.

7. Greek salad

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (5)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

Panera sneakily serves a very good basic Greek salad with all the trimmings such as lively red onions, fresh and thinly sliced small tomatoes, crispy crunchy romaine lettuce, kalamata olives and, for a special occasion, fluffy fluffy pepperoncini. Don't forget the best part, almost like a reward for all those fresh veggies: salty feta. As you can see, our Panera was quite bathed in feta (because you can't see anything in the picture). A good testament to this salad is that even without the cheese, we savor every bite. None of the ingredients tasted remotely canned, wilted or defrosted.

The Greek sauce seemed like an afterthought, and considering how vibrant the ingredients are, you hardly need it. By the time natural tomato juices and a spicy explosion of olives and pepperoncini seep into the veggies, that's pretty much all you need. With a slice of Panera Bread French baguette on the side, it's a much better Greek salad than most we've eaten at similar fast, casual places. cold, but will still bring some sunny flavors no matter what time of year. However, if you're craving a winter version of the classic summer Greek salad, we've got you coveredthis fantastic and tasty riff.

6. Caesar salad

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (6)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

There is no salad more ubiquitous than Caesar salad. We all know the basic ingredients: romaine lettuce, buttered croutons, freshly grated parmesan and, above all, egg dressing. None of that, right? Well, a fun fact: did you know thatits history of originis it a little different than what might first come to mind? (It's not Julius Caesar's favorite dish, in case you're wondering) While these four ingredients are rare and simple, you probably know that the quality of different Caesar salads can vary greatly. At first sight, we were captivated by the Cezar Panera Bread salad. Bland bland green salads are all too common so we appreciated the visual appeal they conveyed to us even through the plastic takeaway container.

The lettuce is nice and crispy, and while our location skimped on cheese on other salads, they gave us plenty of parmesan. It penetrated every nook and cranny of the lettuce, which is the key to the taste, and tasted surprisingly fresh. Some of us aren't fans of a polarizing sauce, but Panera is smooth enough to please almost any palate and let the ingredients shine through without drowning them out. And don't laugh at us when we say toast has become our favorite part. this is paneraFrying panand the brand knew exactly how to toast its signature breads for crunchy salad dressings.

5. Salad with grilled chicken

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (7)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

(Video) Keith Eats Everything at Panera

Grilled chicken salad has plenty to shake up a typical lunch without having to opt for a full bowl of chipotle burrito. If you're wondering if you see the rice in the picture, the answer is no. Instead, Panera Bread picks up corn and mixes it with black beans into a "sauce". We all talk about it. Choosing corn instead of rice makes things lighter while still being incredibly satisfying. Perhaps our favorite item though was the curly onion. They resembled fried flowering onions or freshly wrapped onion rings sprinkled on a salad. Like wonton strips for Asian sesame salad, onions add a touch of danger with their fried flavor. It just makes everything more streamlined.

The apple cider vinegar BBQ sauce and accompanying BBQ ranch are rare and flavorful, but not Panera's best sauces (check out Green Goddess). They certainly take the salad to a south-backyard cooking situation if used casually, which might appeal to someone who loves their savory salads. However, we all wished the chefs had chosen much better chicken thigh meat instead of white meat. It just pales beneath all the other ingredients. All in all, BBQ Chicken Salad is a solid choice, especially if you're really hungry but still want a salad. It would be a great hearty dish along with somechilli with smoked chicken.

4. Mediterranean bowl

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (8)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

The Mediterranean Panera Bowl is the perfect contrast to the Baja Bowl. She still leans towards the cool side, but opts for a sporty flavor reminiscent of sitting on the steps of an Italian villa instead of on a beach in Cancun. And it must be said that we thought Panera felt comfortable here. It's a little better because of the little details that seem to carry from leftovers in the office fridge to a cafeteria-worthy meal. Classic and elegant feta, tomatoes and olives will introduce you to the territory of Greek salads, and a bit of chopped cucumber adds a nice burst of freshness. The rice and quinoa base was pretty boring (and there was way too much of it) and the sauce was pretty bland.

But back to the details that we think leveled it out for a long time: instead of the basic romaine lettuce, we got arugula. It's bouncy, thin, and full of a savory flavor that really helped balance the fresh veggies and soft rice. Hummus at the end. It's smooth and creamy yet full-bodied enough to go much further than you might think of in a small serving. It provides that perfect rich yet smooth flavor that makes even a slice of cucumber suddenly taste like food from the gods. After these taste tests, we're all left with leftovers, but not a drop of this amazing hummus is left. We would like Panera to sell it in individual packages, like cream cheese.

3. Crispy Asian Citrus Chicken Salad

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (9)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

(Video) Broccoli Cheddar Soup + Bread Bowl From Scratch!! PANERA WHO???

Crispy Asian chicken salad with citrus is definitely a few steps ahead of the Asian sesame salad. You can easily tell by looking at the image that there's a lot more going on here to keep you interested. The base contains cabbage which provides a nice extra crunch, so it may live up to its name. However, the chicken is not crispy at all because it is the same tender, juicy meat found in the Teriyaki Bowl. It's less drenched in sauce this time, which we actually prefer because you can taste the flavor of the chicken itself, but Panera still gives you a side of teriyaki sauce if you want. The pickled red onion provides a great tangy flavor. edamame gives it a bit of chewiness and a bit more weight, crunchy carrots are a surprise surprise and fresh coriander is the best finish (if you are one of those people who doesn'tI think it tastes like soap). The balance of flavors and textures was already well-chosen before we even added the dressing.

However, this Tangerine Soy Ginger Sauce is an absolute delight and really elevates everything to the next level by bringing those sushi restaurant notes to your lunchtime salad. This is where the citrus comes in, which is especially needed if you're pouring too much teriyaki sauce into your mix. Just dipping chicken nuggets in the sauce made us want to eat this salad again in a moment.

2. Green Goddess Cobb salad with chicken

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (10)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

There was a heated debate about this within the team, but in the end Cobb Green Goddess Salad with Chicken took first place and easily won the silver medal. Though I could definitely get gold, especially if our Panera had a hard-boiled egg in it. This vibrant salad is full of healthy ingredients that come together to create a concoction that somehow tastes very, very delicious. You treat yourself, but you also treat yourself right, you know?

This icy salad ice cream starts with a tasty combination of spicy arugula, crunchy romaine lettuce, baby kale, and red leaf lettuce for fun. There is also the typical thinly sliced Panera Bread chicken, pieces of bacon, tomatoes, avocados and pickled onions, which are much nicer and softer than regular onions. Oh, and it's supposed to be a hard-boiled egg, but our Panera missed the note (so beware folks). Without a doubt, the highlight is the dressing. Without it, it would just be Cobb Chicken Salad, literally. Seriously, we could pour it on anything because it's packed with so much more flavor than we thought a spice jar could hold. Looking at the ingredients list, we were able to pinpoint the key ingredient: basil, which gives the whole salad a mild sweetness. If our salad contained bacon and eggs, there's a good chance this goddess would reign supreme.

1. Fuji Apple Salad With Chicken

All Panera salads and bread bowls, ranked from worst to best - tasting table (11)

Judy Moreno/Tasting table

Fuji apple salad with chicken: this is one ofthe best menu items available. Who would have thought that we would gladly chooseSaladabout pizza and bagels? He's good from bow to stern, so let's split him up. First, you have a salad mix that includes red leaves, kale, and arugula, so it already has a more complex flavor than most and has a lot more flavor in the greens alone. Of course there's chicken, and while it's white meat, not thigh meat, we actually prefer to have it simpler, so we're focusing on the ingredients, not the chicken. There's tomatoes and onions because they're salads, but you know what makes them restaurant-quality? The gorgonzola crumbles. No misplaced feta here! (But if you can't stand the stench, you can change it.)

Luxury doesn't end with gorgonzola. And now the subtle elements we've fallen in love with: roasted walnuts, Fuji apple chips and silky crunchy apple dip. We could just eat apple chips and walnuts in a trail mix and be happy. We are now buying apple chips online to add to all our homemade salads (just make sure you don't let them sit too long or these delicious slices will lose their luster and become mushy like leftover spaghetti). This vinaigrette with spicy white apple balsam even beats the Green Goddess! This salad really has it all. Well done Panera Panera.
